As coronavirus continues to impact daily life around the world, burning off nervous energy while staying mentally, emotionally, and physically fit is of top priority right now. Major brands are training hard to find their own, unique ways to achieve this.
Nike is among this phenomenon’s leaders.
1. Face Shields
With various components from the brand’s products, Nike has reproduced the face shields workers at OSHU (Oregon Health & Science University) are currently using. The materials that are going into these face shields are collar padding that was supposed to be used in shoes and cords that were originally going to meant for apparel.
“Without proper facial protection, health care workers are at a higher risk of contracting the virus, which could place substantial strain on the health care workforce in the months ahead,” said Miko Enomoto, M.D., an associate professor of anesthesiology and perioperative medicine at the OHSU School of Medicine.
“The full-face shields help protect healthcare workers’ faces and also help to prolong the length we can safely use a surgical or N95 mask. Nike’s generous response to the COVID-19 crisis helps to instill an added layer of confidence and support for healthcare workers, that we can safely carry out the jobs we were born to do.”
The footwear company also donated $15 Million to help combat the spread of the virus.
2. Free Training App
Introducing the Nike Training Club. As millions of people seek ways to stay healthy and exercise, Nike is offering its workout, diet, and health content for free.
The idea behind it is that Nike can influence millions of its followers to stay home and stay healthy, with the right type of communication and ads right now. And, therefore, reach more and more customers worldwide.
This is in line with what customers want to hear during COVID-19, as 43% of survey respondents said it’s reassuring to hear from brands they know and trust.
Their free training app also calls for positive brand association. Nike knows that when this is all over, some customers will convert to paying subscribers, especially if they like the app.
3. “Play for the World”
Nike released a new motivational and very influential slogan that captures just the right vibe. “We may not be playing together,” the ad says, “We may not be playing for our countries yet. We may not be playing for giant crowds. But today we’re playing for 7.8 billion people.” Concluding: “This is our chance. Play for the world.”
Nike acknowledges the sad loss of organized sports activity while saluting those who keep the faith by pumping iron, logging laps, and practicing their moves in isolation.
Tiger Woods, Michael Jordan, Serena William, Cristiano Ronaldo, and more superstars are just a few who have showed their encouragement and tweeted this. And if you look for the hashtag #Playfortheworld (on Twitter, Instagram, and more,) you surely won’t be short of content. Nike supporters are taking part in this initiative worldwide.
