The new snack is meant to simultaneously invoke nostalgia for the last century and to appeal to Gen Z through marketing with the same actress used for the commercial 21 years ago.

Frito-Lay just announced that it was responding to popular demand in bringing back the 3D version of Doritos that made its debut back at the end of the last century. The difference is that it is now “updated for a new generation” with audience engagement on social channels, including a TikTok challenge.
In recapping the history, Doritos 3D’s product was associated with “the actress Ali Landry who starred in the Laundromat Commercial and became known as the Doritos Girl.”
Landry was brought back to announce the new version of the chips. They are available in two flavors: Spicy Ranch and Chili Cheese Nacho.
“Paying homage to the original ‘Laundromat’ commercial, Landry will ask fans to catch Doritos 3D in their mouth in the boldest ways possible. Fans are encouraged to check out the #Doritos3DChallenge on TikTok starting December 28.”
Rachel Ferdinando, SVP and CMO at Frito-Lay North America observed: “Doritos 3D Crunch is one of our most anticipated product launches ever. What’s exciting is that we didn’t just bring back the original — we’ve evolved it to reflect the snacking trends of a new generation.”
