DoorDash is Embracing Change

The fact many of us become our own delivery guys does necessarily spell trouble for food delivery apps

You’d think that ordering take-outs when we’re hungry is clearly because we can’t sit in a restaurant anymore. Or maybe it’s because we don’t trust the hygiene levels of the delivery chain. Perhaps, you’re sick of trying every variation of every recipe you read on the internet for the past 2 months.

But, according to a survey from DoorDash, reasons do not stop there.

Check it out:

56% of respondents said they are ordering more take-outs to support local businesses.

44% said they do it because it saves time (of dining in or cooking) and money (table service/delivery).

AND! About 20% of parent respondents said they prefer this method over a delivery simply because it gives them some much needed “alone time” to escape the family, work, or boredom at home.

We totally get that one.

Additionally, 82% said they are taking the food straight back home to eat it in the comfort of their own living room.

While it’s useful getting yourself acquainted with customers’ shifting behaviors and preferences, DoorDash did not sit this one out.

And so, while one might think that the fact that people are doing their deliveries themselves would maybe hurt a food delivery app – it is not the case.

Simply, because they actually embraced it.

Not only does this mean people are still using the app to order their food, DoorDash also added a very accessible toggle to quickly change between delivery and take out preferences, and is allowing users to share their location with restaurants so that the staff would know when and how to time the preparation to the customer’s arrival.

DoorDash driver David Marrs, said that through text or phone call they will be contacting the costumers to let them know when their food has been delivered. Reinforcing the contactless delivery trend.

“Essentially I text the customer, tell them I’m going to leave it on their porch or near their door,” Marrs said. “I take a picture of it and let them know the delivery has been made.”

We really like this whole thing because it shows that by embracing change, you can come up with innovative ways to make your product even more useful than it was before. Especially, at times like this, you must be even more creative than ever before.

And if you like that tip – than keep the change. Oh, we love dad jokes.
