As encapsulated by this tweet below, the order of events was as follows:

1. On the episode that aired on December 21, contestant Charlene Rushback solved a puzzle on “Wheel of Fortune,” getting the final word right a few seconds after guessing it wrong.

2. Pat Sajak told her she didn’t win, explaining: “You know, this one’s tough because you said all the right words, including the word ‘word,’ but as you know, it’s got to be more or less continuous.”

3. Then he revealed that the prize she lost out on was the AudiQ3.

4. The public booed that decision as unfair and used the hashtag #GiveHerTheQ3 on social media.

5. Of course this came to the attention of the manufacturer of the car in question, and then the company won over many hearts and minds by using the same hashtag and saying it would make it happen.

That Audi tweet generated more than 3.5K Retweets, 735 Quote Tweets, and  33K Likes. It also generated a string of positive reactions from both existing Audi customers and those who said they would now consider it for their next car purchase:

Considering that it got this much positive publicity on Twitter directly and on the news media that picked up the story, Audi really got a terrific ROI for the price of a single car. “Wheel of Fortune,” on the other hand, may need to do something to retain fan loyalty after gaining so much disapproval for the call on the prize.
