Amazon’s Cheesy Cross-Promotion

Get rewarded for watching movies. Too good to be true? Not for Amazon Prime viewers

Popcorn is synonymous with watching films at theaters. But now we’re much more likely to be watching movies at home, and movie munchies are not limited to standard concession sales.

Amazon now seized that opportunity for cross-promotion by offering movie viewers free Cheez-It snacks. It’s called Snap’d & Stream. Here’s how it works:

  1. Enroll: The Amazon Prime movie viewer enrolls in the program for the month. They don’t need to be Prime members to purchase or rent the selected titles from the Prime video catalog.
  2. Watch movies online. Watch 5 hours of select content on Prime Video. This can be done on any device and still count so long as the viewer logs in with the same account used to enroll and watches online. Downloads don’t count.
  3. Cash In. Once you complete the requisite 5 hours, you get an email confirmation with instructions for redeeming your $5 credit for Cheez-It snacks and another $5 prime video credit for videos. The credits expire on 1/31/2021.

For August, action is what defines the selected content. Those who enroll can watch movies like Anaconda, Avengers, Knives Out, Mission Impossible, Top Gun, and many more to earn their rewards.

Amazon is not announcing each month’s theme ahead of time. Instead it has a countdown clock to the next month to build anticipation, leaving subscribers wanting more.

The only drawback here is that the way the eligible snacks are priced on Amazon, one reward will not cover the cost of a single package. The cheapest option I saw costs $9.90 for a 10 pack of cups.

Still getting something for free is always a thrill and what can be better than feeling that you’re movie viewing actually pays you back.
