Lizzo is switching gears, but her message is staying the same: she wants you to love yourself.
The pop star is starting a line of shapewear in collaboration with the sportswear retailer Fabletics. The line, which will be called Yitty will be available on April 12, 2022. Yitty will feature bodysuits, shorts, tanks, unitards and other athletic clothes in a range of sizes, from XS to 6X. Lizzo is hoping that the clothing will “reinvent shapewear.”
Yitty is reportedly named in honor of the nickname Lizzo’s aunt gave her as a child. Lizzo said that her aunt “was a full-figured woman and one of the coolest people ever with bold, beautiful energy.” The “Truth Hurts” artist is hoping to honor her aunt’s energy with the clothing she’s making.

Lizzo has been developing the shapewear line since 2019. In explaining her process to create the clothes, Lizzo detailed how she started wearing restrictive shapewear as a child. “It was really painful and I really felt that it shouldn’t be this way; we shouldn’t be ashamed of our bodies and we shouldn’t have to wear these contraptions to feel beautiful,” the singer shared. According to the artist, the line will come in bold colors and patterns, and is designed to be worn alone or under other clothing.
Fabletics was founded in 2013 by Adam Rosenberg, Don Ressler, and actress Kate Hudson. Previously, Fabletics collaborated with singer Demi Lovato and comedian Kevin Hart. Shoppers will be able to access the Yitty line at the retailer’s 76 stores, or online. Fabletics is also planning on having pop-up stores to sell the shapewear. The line’s prices are set to range from $14.95 to $69.95.
Shapewear brands have become steadily more popular, especially among celebrities. In November 2021, Oprah Winfrey and Reese Witherspoon invested in the shapewear brand Spanx, which was valued at $1.2 billion. And Kim Kardashian is making shapewear, pajamas, lounge wear, and swimsuits for her brand Skims, which is now valued at $3.2 billion. Rihanna, meanwhile, created her own lingerie and shapewear line Savage x Fenty.
Lizzo is hoping to “[take] the shame out of shapewear by infusing the category with fashion.”
