B2CRM News Highlights: John Oliver vs Pringles

Watch a quick weekly news roundup. This time: is it a mere coincidence that the late-night comedian host really wants to see Julius' body right now?

“Why is Pringles dodging our question here? We’re truly not asking for a lot. We’ve seen a ton of excellent Pringle’s bods. We just need to know which one is canon,” John Oliver from HBO’s “Last Week Tonight” show asked in a video that went viral a few days ago, after making a joke a few weeks back about what Mr. P’s nipples look like.

“I am willing to give $10,000 to Feeding America if Pringles answers my question…Do the right pring here… What is Julius Pringles working with from the neck down?”

Sounds ridiculous, but social media networks are buzzing with posts from astounded users:

Pringles’ response? Challenge accepted:

Now, if you think it all looks too good, then you’re not alone.

A Twitter user commented on the Tweet: I’m not so naive to think @iamjohnoliver’s video was just a random update on one-off joke, but stating “oh what a coincidence” about the “new look” on the SAME DAY the video drops strains suspension of disbelief. At least put a week or so between them to make it *appear* organic.

That’s right, for the first time in 20 years – Pringles (almost) simultaneously announced on December 2 that its cans would be getting a new look, which would include the revelation of Mr. P’s full body.

“The cans have a new look that features bold hues and a clean design, highlighting the crisps’ inventive flavors and unique, stackable shape,” the company said.

On the other hand, and perhaps to make it seem real and authentic – Oliver constantly criticizes Pringles for being such a junk snack: “They’re exactly the bad of a company that I imagined…” and “It’s a garbage snack,” he (double) exclaims in the video.

Either way, sponsored challenge or not – it’s funny and has made us crave some BBQ Pringles (or sour cream flavor, or both), so something here must have been done right.

What do you think? Super buff, festively plump, or a little bit skinny… very soon, we’ll find out!
