Ads We Loved: ‘Tis the season-Part I

Tissues at the ready. It’s time for the annual festive ad battles for the hearts and minds of consumers.

​​Tesco: Nothing Stopping Us



Tesco customers are determined not to let anything stop them from enjoying a fun-filled Christmas with their friends and family after all of the restrictions that were in place in 2020. Themed around the problems of the pandemic, we love how the ad evokes joyful defiance and determination to have a good Christmas this year.

Aldi: Christmas ad

Rotten banana “Ebanana Scrooge”, hates the festive season – but Kevin the “Ghostly Carrot” makes Ebanana Scrooge see the error of his ways and  learn that Christmas is a time for “peas and goodwill.”

We love Aldi’s fun take on Charles Dickens’s classic novel A Christmas Carol.

McDonald’s: Imaginary Iggy

In this emotional campaign, we follow a girl’s childhood relationship with an imaginary friend -Iggy. Years later, a child playing in a McDonald’s restaurant, triggers the now young woman to find Iggy and reunite with her imaginary friend.

We love this ad because it reminds us never to lose the spirit of childhood.  

Amazon: An Unlikely Friendship

Amazon showcases an unconventional friendship between a lonely Zookeeper who finds it difficult to see reasons to smile and a misfit hyena called Hattie who cannot smile.  Brought together by their shared taste in comedy via Amazon Prime, Carl and Hattie come to enjoy a special friendship.

We love this ad because it reminds us that joy can come from the most unexpected encounters.

Littlewoods Ireland: Share The Love This Christmas

A hardworking mother buys herself a luxury lipstick as a treat and applies it in front of her daughter, who becomes inspired to create a special present for her mum.  The special gift turns out to be a beautifully packaged piece of paper with a lipstick kiss mark on it. 

We love this ad for its authenticity, heartwarming narrative and the message that love is the greatest gift we can share.

John Lewis: Unexpected Guest 

Nathan discovers Skye, a space traveler in the woods and introduces her to the magic of Christmas by showing her his family’s festive traditions and bringing them to life for her in the woods. We love this ad for its joyful story of friendship and celebration of the magic of Christmas moments experienced for the first time.

Morrisons: Farmer Christmas

Morrisons ad follows two young friends discovering the hero of the season-‘Farmer Christmas’ -a figure representing the farmers, bakers, fishmongers, butchers and workers –that work behind the scenes to make Christmas happen behind the scenes.

We love how Morrisons applauds the hard work, skill and dedication that goes into growing and making the food for Christmas.
